Context

This is a qualifying match for one of three open spots in a four-way elimination match for the CTWE Title that was to be defended at CTWE’s Four Year Anniversary Event in August. Rhett Titus was under contract to Ring of Honor at the time, and faced one of CTWE’s longest-tenured wrestlers in Lukas Sharp, a man who also held one of CTWE’s most impressive win/loss records. The match took place on June 9, 2012.

The Match

At first glance, Conneticut Wrestling Entertainment doesn’t seem to be all that different from the local indy show run in your town; the one run out of armories, gyms, and high schools that has both local guys you’ve never heard of, as well as a few notable indy names. Where this particular organization excels is in its presentation: CTWE has a top-notch production and editing crew, which can be seen from the picture quality of the match, to the professional editing in the pre-match promo, to the use of instant replay that still escapes some of the major independent outfits. I remain very impressed at the overall package presented by CTWE.

Titus and Sharp put on a fairly standard match; again, not too different from a run-of-the-mill live indy match. Props to Titus for making Sharp look strong, when the size difference between the local Conneticut wrestler and the televised Ring of Honor is immediately discernible. Sharp, though fairly undersized, is athletic enough, and seems to be competent enough at this stage in his career. The real draw here, again, is more so the look of the match than the match itself; for indy wrestling aficionados, check this out for production values that are beyond some other American promotions.

Aftermath

Sharp went on to participate in the four-way elimination match against Bandido Jr, Alex Cypher, and CTWE Champion Vladimir Joseph; Sharp came up short, being eliminated last by Joseph. Just two weeks after losing to Sharp, Titus would capture the ROH Tag Team Championship with partner Kenny King at ROH’s iPPV, “Best In The World 2012: Hostage Crisis”.
